Winter perfumeThe winter bottle

Building a scent wardrobe, part two: the one that smells like a lit room in December.

Part one was about finding your base. This one is about a winter perfume for when the coats come out. Replica By the Fireplace by Maison Margiela is chestnut, clove and vanilla, which is about as close as a fragrance gets to sitting by a fire with someone you like.

It's lovely with Tam Dao, the sandalwood from part one. The woods give it structure, the chestnut keeps it soft and a little sweet. Wool coat, cold walk home, a scarf that still smells of it the next morning.

One piece of friendly advice: it carries. Two sprays is plenty. Nobody needs to know you've arrived before you've walked in.
