Winter knitwear guideThree gauges of knitwear, and what each one does
Fine, mid and chunky. If your winter wardrobe has these three, it's done.
A good winter knitwear guide starts with one word: gauge. It's how many stitches fit into an inch, and it changes everything about how a jumper behaves. Once you understand it, you stop buying knitwear on impulse and start buying it on purpose.
The fine knit is the polished one. Buttoned up, close to the body, with wide trousers and a good shoe, it looks like you have your life together. The mid-weight, brushed or striped, is the everyday one: jeans, loafers, out the door. The chunky rib is basically a coat you can wear indoors, and on properly cold days it goes over everything.
Three jumpers, three jobs. I'd rather have those three in a lovely yarn than ten I don't reach for.
