Seasonal living in OctoberThe almanac, week of 26 October
A full moon, a quiet book, and a list to write while it's still a pleasure.
Seasonal living in late October feels strangely tender. The clocks went back this weekend and the week opens under a full moon, which feels like permission to do less and notice more. The markets are full, the evenings are short, and everything seems to be getting ready for something.
So this week is for slow things. Quince in the oven, chestnuts on a tray, a pomegranate broken open over whatever's for dinner. A short, very quiet book: Jon Fosse's Vaim Hotel. And a candle with fig or wood in it, lit a little earlier than feels reasonable.
The moon wanes from Monday. Let a few things go with it.
- at the marketQuince, chestnuts, pomegranates.
